17th of June 2009...

The 64th Annual Outing trip to Troon was again a stunning visual, colourful and entertaining success. Although the rain poured down in Glasgow (nothing changes, eh!) it took a turn for the better the closer we got to Troon.

The people of Troon gave us their usual overwhelming welcome, turning out in their thousands to cheer us into town. Our thanks to all of the children who turned out, to welcome kids, less fortunate than themselves to their town.

All of the shops, pubs and restaraunts made the effort to dress up their businesses on this magical day, thanks to all of you!!!!

A host of celebs including Duncan Bannatyne, Tam Cowan, Tony Roper, George McCluskey and Hoopy the Huddle Hound, as well as our committee members saw the convoy, with around 400 youngsters on board leave from Kelvin Way, piped out by The Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.

Over 100 cabs made the journey to the Ayrshire coast with the children and their carers and parents, not bad considering the present financial difficulties the Taxi Trade is experiencing at the moment.

Arriving in Troon the kids were entertained with a host of activities including dancing, face painting, pony rides and even a dry Ski-Slope, as well as having the usual treats, ice-cream, packed lunches etc.

Lot's of thanks to the drivers who give up their time and earnings to transport and entertain the children. They put hours of time and effort into dressing up the cabs and themselves for the occasion.

Kenny Warren and Davie Dewar won the Best Dressed Taxi award for their "Dalmation"

Willie Paterson won the Best Fancy Dress (as Susan Boyle, brilliant). The Flinstones, Bob the Builder, the Ugly Sisters and a host of other characters showed the Glasgow Taxi Drivers great sense of humour, fantastic effort ladies and gents, thank you all.

The Clyde 1 Roadshow provided the entertainment in the Town Hall and our thanks go to their DJ and road crew for a great time. See you next year folks.

Sincere thanks to everyone who contributes to a great day out;

Our Sponsors, The Strathclyde Police, the people of Glasgow and Troon and of course THE BEST TAXI DRIVERS IN THE WORLD (City of Glasgow Hackney Drivers).

The Outing Fund Committee.
